Fundamentals Versus Technicals - Boral - April 2001
Over the next twelve months, "fundamental" style investment analysis will
once again return to fashion - always does in a downturn.
Something to watch over coming months, indeed probably all the time, is
when the share price of a large company falls below its NTA (net tangible
assets). Such figures are readily available in the AFR daily. Boral has
been in this category for some time (share price $2,30, NTA $2.83). It is
always worth following a stock like this for an eventual turnaround (see
also Austrim) i.e. watching for accumulation at lows, or double bottoms,
and of course on the fundamentals, a forecast for increased earnings in the
future.
BLD is now back to previous highs, the chart starts after the spinning off
of Boral's Energy division into Origin Energy. Watch now for a move either
way (but I reckon upwards eventually) after some further accumulation
first, between the lines as drawn (the longer one illustrating tops
becoming lows).
