New Technology PCE 25/7/00
The low inflation era since 1990, that I believe will continue for some
time yet, is permitting corporations to look much more longer term as
regards payback time scales for investment undertaken. A great time to
develop new technology, and then commercialise it. For investors it
means;
- share investments must be watched and reviewed continually just in
case
the product / ideas your company produces become obsolete,
- An exciting time as larger multinationals takeover / strategically
align
with newer start ups.
You will see plenty of this to come this decade.
Have a look at Pinnacle Mining, now Pinnacle VRB. (Code PCE) They have
rights to work on a vanadium battery - a non leaking, infinitely
rechargeable battery using vanadium electrolyte, rather than lead / acid
.
Now think about the implications for zinc miners (Pasminco) for example.
I draw your attention to just this one example because in today's world,
in
some instances the buy and hold strategies on shares are over. Note
also
how quickly the price runs ahead of fundamentals and other developments.
The technology here of course is something long term, won't happen
overnight, indeed may not happen at all. [I'd love to see the room
where
oil companies have bought out the great ideas of competitors, then
shelved
them] Nevertheless, keep an eye out for this one.
